5 Incredible Books to Read in 2020

Looking for recommendations on what to read this year? I’ve got you covered.

I thought about including pictures, but decided to refrained. It’s easy to judge a book by it’s cover (don’t lie, we all do it) and I don’t want that to be the case here. Each of these books are amazing and everyone should read them whether it’s your go-to genre or not.

  1. Year of Yes (Shonda Rhimes)

I consider Year of Yes to be the ultimate self help book. The author, Shonda Rhimes, is the woman behind popular TV shows Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy so it’s no surprise that her book is genius and well written. What intrigued me the most was her down-to-earth, badass tone that was so relatable I couldn’t help but laugh my way through it. She puts you in real life situations that makes you think about all of the missed opportunities you could have had by saying one simple word. Yes. It’ll completely change the way you view your everyday life and might even inspire you to experience things you might have passed up otherwise.

  2. Behind Closed Doors (B.A. Paris)

If you enjoy thrillers, this one’s for you—I couldn’t put it down! Behind Closed Doors will have you on edge the entire way through and is filled with plot twists you’ll never see coming. Characters Jack and Grace seem like the perfect couple on the outside who are graciously taking care of Grace’s disabled sister, but inside their home is a completely different story. The million dollar question is, will anyone be able to see through the lies before it’s too late?

  3. Educated (Tara Westover)

We all know everyone is raised differently, but Tara Westover’s memoir, Educated, is unlike any other. She grew up on an acreage with her family where the end of the world was a real fear and school was out of the question. Religion was at the utmost importance and no one could be trusted—especially the government. She takes you along her journey to reveal how hard work and dedication can pay off. Trust me, you’ll be intrigued from cover to cover.

  4. The Girl Before (Rena Olsen)

Human trafficking is a huge issue, especially right here in the Midwest. The Girl Before takes you inside the mind of young Clara who to everyone else is a victim, but in her eyes, her life is perfect—until she’s taken away by police and separated from her husband and daughters. She’s angry, confused, and just wants to be with her family so she can get back to training the girls for their clients. Everyone is trying to get her to talk, but Glen her loving husband says to stay quiet otherwise he’ll be locked up for good. It isn’t until the cops uncover undeniable truths that she starts to wonder whether she really knows what love, family, and marriage truly means.

  5. The Couple Next Door (Shari Lapena)

Shari Lapena never fails to write heart-stopping thrillers with an ending that will leave you thinking, what. the. hell. The Couple Next Door is no exception and is so intriguing you’ll probably finish it within a few days (especially if you’re stuck practicing social distancing). Anne and Marco just started a family by welcoming their daughter Cora into the world. Everything is absolutely perfect until they attend a dinner party at their next door neighbor’s house. Little Cora vanishes without a trace and it seems the culprit leaves no evidence behind. Uncovering the truth involves unforgivable secrets, unfaithfulness, and shocking twists you won’t believe. Prepare yourself, because the ending will give you full body chills.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I love true crime podcasts, TV shows, and books. Last year I joined a book club in order to introduce myself to new genres and that’s when I discovered books I would have missed out on otherwise. I hope this list can help you expand your palette when it comes to reading because it’s so worth it when you do.

Positive vibes always,

M + M
